#12 jay-z, gaga, katy, rihanna
I think Kate Perry's California Girls is the worst, most objectionable and offensive. She uses her body with little clothing, dancing and spraying whipped cream out of her boobs to bring in teenagers. What teenage boy is going to say that's a bad thing? She uses candyland as the theme to bring in young children. This video talks about sexual things in so many ways but people don't realize because she uses candy as a form to cover it up. Everything is so happy, sweet and young in this video that it makes it seem acceptable in society when really, no young child should be watching that. She's considered to be a role model but she's just teaching girls at a young age that using your body to get what you want is okay. If the video is about California then how come it shows nothing about California and all it talks about is bikinis, melting popsicles, and sex on the beach. Snoop Dog says "toned, tanned, fit and ready... these are the girls I love the most." So whats that teaching girls? You have to be tanned, toned, and fit in order to get a boy.

#10 Bully
If children are the ones who are going to benefit from this documentary then why put an R rating on the film. I think the film Bully should receive a PG rating. It is recommended in one of the articles that children under 16 go see the film with a trusted adult. I think it depends on your maturity levels and what you've been through but it should definitely be a "must see" film no matter what age you are. The trailer almost brought me to tears. Its so real that eliminating the language (the cause of the high rating) wouldn't make the film true. People need to see the real way bullies act. They need to see it from a victims point of view rather then sugar-coating it to make the bully look not so mean so that all ages can see the film. The main audience targeted in this film is young teenagers so they should be able to see the film without an adult.
It interests me how open and supportive Canadians are with letting their children watch the film because I think its the Americans they need to worry about. Yes, children in Canada get bullied but the film is based on American families, schools, bullies and victims. The U.S.A. has a higher crime rate so why are they trying so hard to make the rating of this film R when they need people to see the truth to prevent it from happening. Children are getting bullied so much that they're committing suicide, no child or family should have to go through that. Everyone has the right to live so what makes one person better then another.

#9 Kony, social media and all that
The Kony video had a huge impact on everyone. Many people are supporting it in order to get Kony known to the rest of the world. Jason had a great way of sharing the video, not just with the video itself and the way it was presented but also the fact that he used media to spread the word. So many people are involved in social networks so why not use media more often. People are almost forced to watch the video or support it because it is such a social norm that you now know what Kony is doing and who he is. No one wants to be different and not support it, so they all watch it which is great! It's amazing how fast something can spread through the media. Whats in the media is not always good or true so its not necessarily good how fast word spreads through media. In this case it was good but it can also be bad. The presentation of the video was great. Most videos with such heavy information are kind of boring. I found the video to be quite interesting and with the amount of views so did a lot of other people. All you need is a cute kid, sad story, and some good music and you're set. The only thing that I didn't like about the video was the whole 29 minutes seemed that invisible children wanted to make a difference and wanted to stop Kony from the horrible things he's doing yet they ask for money at the end. Really, what's the money even going to? We're showing our support by watching the video, spreading the word and covering the town with Kony posters, paintings, etc on April 20th so I don't think asking for your support by giving money is really necessary.

#8 Growing up online
Parents have a right to know what media their children are involved in in order to protect them from some of the harsh realities out there; but they don't have the right to know every little detail. I found the one mom to be very over protective and controlling. Generally most people know what to post in the media and what not to such as contact information. If parents educate their children on how to be safe with in the media then we wouldn't have problems and over-controlling parents. A parent should be able to see what their child is posting, pictures, etc every once in a while but I don't think a parents should have access to their child's personal information, set time limits, or constantly be watching their child while they are on social networks. Children who have a bit more freedom tend to not hide things as much as the children who are constantly being watched. For example, the children with the controlling mother on the video didn't like using the home computer because they couldn't express themselves through social networks without being questioned by their parent. With that being said, I think that children/teenagers should be able to express themselves through media with limits on what they can post that is socially acceptable. Parents need to understand that media is a huge part in how our generation expresses themselves.

#7 How much?
I think it should be the families decision on what is released to the public during a murder case. Some families may want people to know about it to raise awareness and other families may want complete privacy. The only information that should be released to the public as our right to know is minor details on the case and whether the defendant is guilty and what the sentence is. I don't think its necessary for the public to know everything on the case and every detail on how the victim was murdered. It's hard enough on a family going through that but much harder with all the publicity and lack of privacy.

#6 Spoof Commercial
Product - Tanning Beds
Partner - Larissa Jones
Concept - We decided on tanning in tanning salons. Many people think "I need to be tanned for vacation, prom, or just all year round." But what they don't realize is all the effects of tanning with ultraviolet rays. Not only is it fake and dangerous for your skin but it can help cause cancer, premature aging, wrinkles, skin sagging, etc. A lot of people are easily recognizable if they've gone to a tanning salon because their skin has a orange tint to it rather then a natural tan so what better to do then a spoof commercial for this product. I don't see why people need to be tanned all year round, or if they're going on vacation then just tan when they're there. There's plenty of time to tan in the summer so why get wrinkles, orangey skin, and possibly cancer just so you can be tanned all year round or for one occasion.
I thought the commercial turned out alright. It was hard to get the point across when we couldn't film our whole video in the tanning salon but overall I think people will be able to tell what product we're advertising.

#5 careful constructions and reality tv
1. Sometimes
2. The Bachelor/Bachelorette, The Real World, and Survivor
3. Certain reality tv shows are so easy to tell that they're actually not reality and that bugs me. For example, The Bachelor is very fake. Its obvious that they just keep certain people around for the drama and to increase the popularity of the show. I like reality shows that don't seem like the characters are acting. Everything seems to be more "real". Every show obviously has some acting in it to get an arise out of people but I don't like the shows that are "reality" but its clearly all acting. I like the real world because its just a group of random strangers living in a house together and it seems real, there are conflicts between people but they aren't too over the top. Everyone is unique and kind of just "goes with the flow".
