#8 Growing up online

Parents have a right to know what media their children are involved in in order to protect them from some of the harsh realities out there; but they don't have the right to know every little detail. I found the one mom to be very over protective and controlling. Generally most people know what to post in the media and what not to such as contact information. If parents educate their children on how to be safe with in the media then we wouldn't have problems and over-controlling parents. A parent should be able to see what their child is posting, pictures, etc every once in a while but I don't think a parents should have access to their child's personal information, set time limits, or constantly be watching their child while they are on social networks. Children who have a bit more freedom tend to not hide things as much as the children who are constantly being watched. For example, the children with the controlling mother on the video didn't like using the home computer because they couldn't express themselves through social networks without being questioned by their parent. With that being said, I think that children/teenagers should be able to express themselves through media with limits on what they can post that is socially acceptable. Parents need to understand that media is a huge part in how our generation expresses themselves.
